Angie Martinez and Miss Info try to be beams of positivity in episode 9 of In Real Life. Despite “the world falling apart all around us,” the duo try to emerge from the dark hole and discuss good news.
Their suggested mechanisms for coping: being proactive by donating time and goods to those in need, or simply listening to Beyoncé hopping on J Balvin and Willy William’s “Mi Gente.”
Some bright spots: Info shouted out the Virginia-based Operation Blessing, which brings desalination machines and solar-powered lanterns to places hit by natural disasters to provide clean water and light. Martinez then clapped for J. Cole, who came out of his Twitter slumber to address Cardi B’s success and boycotting the NFL by not watching the games post-Colin Kaepernick.
“I just appreciated his voice at a time like that ’cause there is a responsibility somewhat when you’re that insightful and you’re that beloved as an artist,” Martinez says. “Step up when it’s necessary and important.”
Info adds, “I think there are also some artists who would say ‘I make art, I make music, I try to bring joy when I am doing that or when I am launching that career, or achieving that dream. I don’t also take on this other job of being a spokesperson or having to be political’ … But it’s not necessarily a place for everybody.”
Miss Info also discusses planning to do weed as Martinez proposes a high episode taping for the 10th installment of In Real Life. Things turn up when the ladies discuss the “For The D,” being here for Erykah Badu’s version and what Miss Info has done for the proverbial D. The podcast pair also offer up their enlightening weekly recommendations.
