Hailing from Silver Springs, Maryland, and growing up in the rap hotbed of the greater D.C./Maryland/Virginia area, rapper Global Dan quickly established himself with hook-heavy choruses and high-energy lyrical flows. His 2017 break-out track "Off-White" put him on the map and led to high-profile collaborations on mixtapes like 2019's Global Meltdown.
Global Dan grew up immersed in the rap sounds coming from his area, and decided to try his hand at rapping in his late teens. He began posting songs online in 2016 and scored his first widely appreciated track with 2017's "Off-White," a song inspired by the Italian fashion brand of the same name. The song gained so much traction it even caught the attention and excited acknowledgment of Off-White founder Virgil Abloh. The song was streamed millions of times, and later that year Global Dan returned with his first mixtape, Global Warming. He quickly moved from the rambunctious swagger of his early material into more emotionally volatile songwriting. 2018 brought both a remix of "Off-White" featuring Rich the Kid and MadeinTYO as well as the Lil Skies collaborative single "Moving On." That year's single "Dark Out" was a further move towards emo-tinged rap, featuring a melodic hook sung by Global AzN. The song became Global Dan's most popular hit up until that point, streaming tens of millions of times. The song appeared again on his 2019 mixtape Global Meltdown; the collection also featured collaborations with G-Eazy, Yung Bans, Global Chi, and many others. ~ Fred Thomas
