Making music can sometimes be compared to marriage: you’re in it for life. If the 21-year-old Norwegian artist Ary keeps delivering the goods, we’ll all soon be proposing to her.
Ary’s musical journey has taken off since her first live performance at NuMusic Festival in 2014. Already then, interest from multiple international labels began to grow. Her unique live show has spellbound every crowd, securing slots at this year’s Eurosonic and by:Larm. Ary’s first single ‘Higher’ via prestigious electronic label Eskimo Recordings was released in April 2015 and got A-listed by NRK P3. The collaboration with Norwegian producer and artist Carl Louis has proved fruitful, as their sophomore effort, ’Telescope’, went straight to P3’s A-list. Their 3rd collab ‘Human Again’ also got playlisted in January 2016. After working through 100 tracks, Ary is set to turn heads as her new releases see the light of day in 2016.
The persona Ary stems from Ariadne, who after only one year of listening and creating music alone has found her very own space among the vast landscapes of sound, vibe and shape. Her alluring voice thrives in a backdrop of booming beats and massive, gripping synths. Ary and her brown eyes have roots in Trondheim and Trinidad, “The Rainbow Island”, drawing yet another exotic element to her music. Her palette is extensive. As well as writing and performing her own music, she is also a skilled producer.
In a recent vote to select 2016’s top ten Ones-To-Watch, a group of 38 Norwegian insiders comprised of tastemakers, festival bookers and music journalists were unanimous in their praise; they all agree Ary is the most promising new artist to come out of Norway this year. Many foresee a bright future for her, and she might just be exactly what this industry needs.
