“My music comes from a dark place, but the creative process is a positive one.” To Emilie Adams lyrics and music is a way to communicate honestly. “Music and melody is important. But the lyrics are even more important. To me.” she says. “My lyrics are personal, conveying my experiences, feelings and thoughts”. So far most have just heard Emilie sing, but as an artist she embraces the entire creative process; from a melody picked out on a piano or snippets of lyrics jotted down, to a finished song that can be performed on stage. Songwriting is an art, and she particularly enjoys writing, interpreting and conveying lyrics. “I want people to listen to the lyrics, but they’re free to interpret them as they wish.” Musically Emilie references dark electronic, such as Banks and Lorde, as well as alternative and pop, such as MØ, Lana del Rey and Coldplay. And working with songwriters and producers with more experience, who challenge her, is inspiring.
