An underground legend, Naira is a key pioneer in the UK Afrobeats scene. From the moment he released his 2014 debut hit Marry Juana, Naira has been forging a unique path for others to follow. Fusing the gleaming, party bashment of Jamaican artists such as Popcaan and Vybz Kartel with a street swagger learned from his childhood in Peckham, South London, and delivering his one-liners in an inimitable London-Yoruba accent, Naira is widely recognised as having created the Afrobashment genre, paving the way for the current success of UK artists such as J Hus, Not3s, Belly Squad and more.
Possessed with a restless creativity, Naira has followed Marry Juana with hit after hit. A prolific collaborator, Naira has recorded tracks with Nigerian A-listers including Olamide, Wande Coal and Lil Kesh, as well as UK stars such as Loski and Young Adz. His recent singles have covered everything from the melodic road rap anthem Money on the Road (Noisey’s most viewed UK video of 2017) to the wavey smokers tune Flying Away, to his current global dance smash Issa Goal, recorded with Olamide and Lil Kesh - a track that has taken over clubs from London to Lagos and launched the viral Shaku Shaku dance craze worldwide.
