When nobody else wants to confront relationships, sex, love, and heartache head-on, Delacey certainly will. The Orange County-born and Los Angeles-based artist writes without a filter, sings with simmering soul, and embraces personal truth. Instead of filling up a diary, her bluesy delivery carries raw emotion over a palette of grunge-y pop. The budding talent pursued a career as a songwriter at 18 by “moving to New York after getting kicked out of high school.”Six months later, she wound up back in California with a myriad of experiences to draw from, which informed her first placement “New York City” for The Chainsmokers. After signing to Universal Music Publishing and operating behind-the-scenes, she went on to write “Dead” for Madison Beer, “Ruin the Friendship” for Demi Lovato, “First Love” for Lost Kings and Sabrina Carpenter, and “Ruin My Life” for Zara Larsson, and current #1 Hit “Without Me” for Halsey among many others. At the same time, she contemplated her own artistry.
2018 saw her fly back to New York, rent an Airbnb, and cut a body of work alongside producer Ido Zmishlany [Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello]. Channeling a throwback nineties spirit evocative of Tidal and Jagged Little Pill, the soundscapes incorporated gritty guitar, live drums, and tearful one-take vocals. Early demos caught the attention of L.A. Reid who signed her to HITCO after one listen. Now, the world gets to know her on the prickly and powerful debut single “My Man.”
