Bliss Signal's unlikely fusion of experimental electronica and black metal guitars first debuted in 2017 as a live entity before the cascading wall-of-sound was committed to record, with the release of 2018's Drift EP.
Formed during 2017 by U.K. dance innovator Mumdance (aka Jack Adams) and Alter of Plagues' WIFE (aka James Kelly), the duo started collaborating between their Berlin and London-based studios, with the aim to combine WIFE's black metal guitars with Mumdance's driving and atmospheric electronica. The duo debuted their live show at 2017's Unsound Festival in Krakow, Poland, and recorded at the same time. The following year saw the pair commit their immersive, blissed-out mix of guitar washes, driving electronic rhythms, and subtle black metal vocals to record with the release of their debut EP Drift after signing a split deal with True Panther Sounds and Profound Lore. The self-titled debut album followed a few months later and saw them working with Christian Wright (Radiohead, Ben Frost) and Jaime Gomez-Arellano (Cathedral, Paradise Lost). ~ Rich Wilson
